Maritza graduated from Loyola University of Chicago (1988) and Loyola University of Chicago School of Law (1989), under their competitive Third Year Admission Program. Her breadth of legal knowledge is gathered from her twenty-two year, varied, and substantial law practice as a litigator.

Maritza additionally serves as a Commissioner at the Illinois Court of Claims, conducting trials, taking evidence and making confidential recommendations to the Illinois Court of Claims Judges as to the dispositions of monetary claims, other than workers’ compensation claims, made against the state of Illinois.
